Medical and Digital Content Intern

Shivani Patel graduated from Rutgers University in May of 2021. At Rutgers, she majored in Cell Biology and Neuroscience and minored in Healthcare Administration. During her minor courses, she learned of the many health disparities that exist in healthcare delivery and the challenges underserved communities face when seeking out healthcare services. With this experience, alongside applying to medical school, she decided to pursue a Master’s in Precision Health, in order to learn how to apply research methodologies to prevent disease and reduce health disparities across these communities. Shivani also has a strong interest in clinical research, and is currently working as a clinical research assistant at the University of Chicago Medical Center ICU, where she is helping conduct bedside research to improve patient outcomes and quality of care. As a medical assistant during the pandemic, she saw how medical misinformation disproportionately targeted communities lacking regular access to healthcare professionals, which ultimately motivated her to join IMPACT as a media and digital content intern.
