COVID-19 Weekend Update: 1/22-1/24

By Sandra Folarin and Jeffrey Softcheck, MBA

As of Friday, January 22nd, 99,036 tests were logged including: 82,893 molecular (84%), 10,119 antigen (10%), and 6,024 UIUC molecular saliva (6%). In all, 4,979 newly confirmed or probable cases were recorded for a daily case positivity rate of 5.03% and 123 additional deaths. There has been lots of great movement in the right direction as we head into the latter part of January. Currently, only a small percentage of the population is vaccinated, but as vaccine rollout gets further underway, we expect this decreasing positivity trend to continue.

The chart below shows the past week's total numbers for positivity by county and region. At or less than 5% = green, Above 5% but less than 8% = yellow, and above 8% = red. The same graph also shows the percent of the population by county that has received at least one dose of vaccination. This will be helpful in tracking the progress of positivity as the vaccine rollout progresses.

Lastly, ICU bed utilization continues to look up as well.

As always, please remember to mask, distance, and get vaccinated when offered to help save lives.
